J-Law’s Golden Globe Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Award season! If you don’t already know, it’s pretty much my favorite time of year (except for when I go on holiday of course). I love to see all the pretty ladies dress up and make appearances on the red carpet. One of my – and basically everyone else’s favorite actress is Jennifer Lawrence. She never fails to be memorable on the red carpet – and no I’m not talking about how she keeps tripping at the Oscars.

Her hair and makeup are something I always look forward to. At this year’s Golden Globes she looked lovely as ever and because I love her makeup, and I wanted to recreate the look. Here’s how you do it.

Her skin looked very natural and matte, so to get rid of any oiliness, apply primer first and then foundation. We’ll start with the very top, which is the brows. They look completely natural and not very defined so just lightly go in with a brown pencil and give them a little color. Don’t focus on filling them in. That’s it. Brows are done.

Her eyes just looked gorgeous and the effect is surprisingly easy to recreate. To get eyeshadow that will last a long while, apply eye primer to the lids and then begin with a light shimmery grey shadow and apply it all over the lid. Apply it lightly under the lower eyelid as well. The look isn’t exactly smoky, but it has a bit of a “come hither” vibe, so take a darker gun metal shade and apply it to the outer corners. Then blend, blend and blend some more. To give the look more life, you can choose to apply a shadow lighter than the first grey to the inner corners of the eyes.

Eyeliner and mascara are next. I love this look because it’s not too heavy, but it still looks sexy. To get this effect, apply black pencil eyeliner all around the top and bottom lids. Take a soft brush and smudge it a little, because Jennifer’s eyeliner isn’t defined in clear line. Lastly, apply mascara that lengthens the lashes. You don’t need a voluminizing one because we’re going for a less heavy look.

Her cheeks have an extremely faint hint of blush, so use a peach or a shade similar to your skin tone and lightly apply the blush to the cheeks.

Her skin has a very glowy and fresh look, so to get this use a highlighting powder to contour the cheek, nose and chin bones. To finish off the look, use a gaze drawing deep wine red lipstick and apply it firmly to the lips. (To get a nice smooth application, make sure they are properly moisturized). Finally, add some shine to lips using clear lip gloss and woo! You now look like an Oscar winning celebrity!

It’s simple and easy to do – two things I can definitely get behind. So while you’re preparing for the next big event, try your hand at this look and ‘wow’ yourself!
